Biography of Benito Mussolini

Mussolini was born in Predappio in Romagna on July 29, 1883. His father, Alessandro, was a blacksmith, and his mother Rosa was a schoolteacher. Benito became a fervent socialist much like his father. He qualified as an elementary schoolmaster in 1901. In 1902 he emigrated to Switzerland. He couldn.t find a permanent job there and arrested for vagrancy, he got kicked out and was then returned to Italy to do his military service. After more trouble with the police he worked at a newspaper place in the Austrian town of Trento in 1908.He wrote a novel and it was translated into English as The Cardinal’s Mistress. Benito Mussolini was the leader of Italy. He brought up the econemy and stability in Italy. as it was said, “He made the trains run on time” (by shooting someone if they didn’t). His goal was to regain for Italy the prestige and power. His Blackshirts went into Rome (1922) about a year before Hitler tried to get power but failed at doing so. He then got sent to prison. Mussolini had been leader for about 10 years before Hitler became president of Germany. Both Mussolini and Hitler were in the World War. Wehn they came back they found that there countries were both failing economically and politically. So these two guys formed some parties to help solve the problem. These parties led him to a program of militarization. Many Europeans saw that he was helping their country and thought that in doing this “outweighed any rumors of police brutallity”. In 1935 he invaved Ethiopia and used poisionus gasses and when he was condemmed for his acts he went to see if other countries would be his allies and Germany and Japan agreed to this. He joined Hitler and supported the nationalist side in the 1936-1939 Spanish Civil War. Spanish Generalissimo Franco then joined him as an alley, butknowing the atrocities of thiswar lost him still more support in the rest of the world. He then entered the 2nd world was, which was a “big mistake”. Germany was with war with Brittan and France sinse september. Italy wasen’t involved and believed that the other counrties had no reason to attack them. Germany was about to win the war and it was beleived that France would surrender soon and Britan would just make some peace. If Mussolini would just not do any thing then he thought that the Nazi’s would attack Italy but then France was open for grabs so then he declared war on France. War wasen’t ending and the people were starting to relize how week the Itailian Army and Navy were and that wasen’t so good. Mussilini was going to try to attack the Brittish so they wouldnt go to the Mediterainian sea which he beleived was ‘his’ sea. After this task he was goin to try and beat the Soviets then go aross the Atlantic sea to the U.S. All of the planes and boats were thought to be no good and wouldn’t go far. The planes were light and the boats werent ready for such a defeat. Then there was the soldiers that didnt have good weapons and had very loew confidence about this whole thing that didn’t want to risk thier blood. Italy was beaten by France, the U.S. and Britan but beleive it or not they were also beaten when they attempted to beat Greece in 1941. Around July 1943 most of the armies were lost in Africa and invaded. Mussilini was no longer prime minister and he was arrested while Italy tried to change sides. Hitler rescued Mussilini from where he was inprisined and they set up a base in German-help northern Italy with Mussilini as the leader. When the Germans surrendered in northern Italy in April 1945. Mussolini was arrested again. He and his wife Clara Petacci were removed from the jail at Giulino di Messegra and lynched, by the local Communist partisans. On April 27, 1945, Italians weren’t for fascism captured Mussolini as he attempted to escape to Switzerland. The next day, he was shot to death.
